There are currently three major VA medical facilities located in Nebraska (Omaha, Lincoln, and Grand Island) which form the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System. Each of the three divisions, which are listed below, provide a unique array of health care services. In addition to the three major medical facilities, there are numerous community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) located throughout Nebraska (Bellevue, Holdredge, Norfolk, North Platte, O'Neill and Shenandoah). In addition to the VA medical facilities and CBOCs in Nebraska, The American Legion, Department of Nebraska is a strong supporter of the VA medical facility in Hot Springs, South Dakota, which provides services to many veterans in western Nebraska. Omaha The Omaha VA Medical Facility provides inpatient, medical, surgical and psychiatric care in addition to its ambulatory care services. The Omaha VA Medical Facility also partners with Creighton University and the University of Nebraska Medical Center in order to provide a wide range of clinical research programs. Lincoln The Lincoln facility is a community-based outpatient clinic with primary care services for veterans in the Lincoln area. Services include behavioral health (individual, group and family counseling), personal care (primary care providers and specialty care referrals to the Omaha VA Medical Center), laboratory (blood drawing) and routine prescriptions. Grand Island VA CBOC |
Grand Island The Grand Island facility includes a 65-bed community living center, residential substance abuse unit and a community-based outpatient clinic with primary care services for veterans in the Grand Island area. The community living center provides extended care, rehabilitation, geriatric care, palliative care, respite care, supportive/restorative and long-term care, and general nursing home care. The CBOC provides some specialty care, mental health services including residential substance abuse treatment unit, personal care (primary care providers and specialty care referrals to the Omaha VA Medical Center), laboratory (blood drawing) and routine prescriptions.
